2024 – 2025

From an MCM Honorable Mention to mentoring students in mathematical modeling, experimental design, and technical writing.

Modeling

I received an Honorable Mention in the 2024 Mathematical Contest in Modeling. The competition involved turning an open-ended problem into explicit assumptions, variables, constraints, and evaluation criteria, then developing a computational model and explaining its results in a technical report.

The modeling process connects problem formulation, algorithm selection, numerical experiments, and sensitivity analysis.

Workflow

  1. Formulate the problem. Identify the objective, variables, constraints, and key assumptions.
  2. Construct the model. Choose an interpretable representation and determine the data and parameters it requires.
  3. Evaluate the solution. Use numerical experiments, comparisons, and sensitivity analysis to examine the conclusions.
  4. Communicate the evidence. Organize the assumptions, methods, results, and limitations into a structured report.

Teaching

I served as a Teaching Assistant at Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s National Mathematical Modeling Training Camp from June to August 2025.

I mentored students in mathematical modeling, experimental design, and technical report writing, helping them connect a clear problem statement to a testable model and an evidence-based explanation.
